I love working on old homes. Many years of restoring our own 100+ year old Victorian has been a good foundation but each home is different. Figuring out the finishing and moldings to restore old baseboards in an Irving Park 130 year old brownstone can be challenging (shellac. . . most woodwork over 100 years old was finished with shellac). Often it’s impossible to match old moldings or millwork, in most cases it’s possible to find something that is very close but once in a while I mill short runs of molding from scratch. Restoring the post at the end of a stairway and second floor landing in Edgewater Glen recently required that. I’ve included a couple projects here with new ones being added from time to time. Each one is a new puzzle to be solved. (CLICK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PHOTOS TO SCROLL THROUGH MULTIPLE VIEWS).
